Last Day of 2015 and Gifted Gorgeousness......must do better!

Well, hello, just made it before the end of the year according to Eastern Standard Time, chums over in Oz and New Zealand are well into the New Year, possibly having already broken a resolution or two?  AND I've got a whole FIVE HOURS before Jo closes the Gifted Gorgeousness widget thingy for December and 2015!

The last Gifted Gorgeousness link up, lived on the edge with this one, think I missed one when there was no phone or internet service in Oregon, and big thanks to Jo who has decided to continue into 2016, hooray!

Nothing in the way of stitching from me, this month but I received this cheeky little chap from Jacquie  Thanks, Jacquie, he really made me smile!

and sometime ago I sent a PS chart to Ariadne in Greece and just look what she did with it, isn't it smashing?

Ariadne chose a vintage red and green trim from her stash and it sets off the whole thing perfectly.

Did you all have a lovely Christmas?  Do hope so,   We went east this year, a night in Pittsburgh then onto Baltimore for Christmas returning to Pittsburgh on Boxing Day.  Lovely time with both daughters and families and a delightful party with our son in law's extended family, including gorgeous month old twins.

Not much decorating happened in the Lake House this year, I was away for ten days before Thanksgiving helping the Wyoming Cowboys move and become Oregon ones then a week before Christmas the dreaded lurgy struck, no voice, wheezing, coughing and general misery so something had to give.  So pretend these beautiful pictures are taken in Michigan.......

Handmade houses by daughter 1's father in law

A and J's beautiful tree
........but actually taken in Pittsburgh at the beautiful home of daughter 1's parents in law!

I'll leave you with a picture taken early one morning a few weeks ago......

I'm getting nervous that I'll be too late to link up to the GG SAL so just want to wish you a happy New Year and a peaceful 2016.  To all those suffering as the result of different violent weather patterns across the globe, sending hugs and prayers.

love, Gillie x

Gifted Gorgeousness with a bit of, actually not much, time to spare!

Well, sorry, Jo, two months running?  In both our dreams, sigh!

It was giving and receiving this month, by way of the Friendly Stitchers' Autumn exchange that Melissa deemed was to be a needle book.  By happy chance she was my partner too and I had the perfect small chart  from one of her favourite designers and even better, it was bought at her LNS in London, Ontario when Frances (no blog) and I visited her last May.

So......what did I stitch, well, actually two small charts, one for the back and one for the front.

This is a Jeanette Douglas Design and that's all I can tell you right now because I can't find the chart!
The little cabin on the back represents Melissa's sweet house!

And this what I received from her......
The colours are so much nicer in real life and I received lovely thread, fabric and one of her special handmade cards too,  Thank you so much, Melissa!
Well, I'm off to bed, early start in the morning and Blogger really isn't behaving in a gentlemanly/ladylike way regarding photographs!

Gifted Gorgeousness........ON TIME!

I know, I know.......still just over three hours of September 15th left and here I am!  Jo, I do hope you are sitting down........?  Whoops, someone fan her a bit..........!

Well quite frankly I've just been completely occupied with keeping up with the Kaye SALs and not had much time for anything, I'm not going to explain, hop over there and she will!  On the Prairie Schooler one I offered a little giveaway and Miss Ariadne in beautiful Greece won and it was sent on its way there last Tuesday. I bought one too as you can see from the picture......

The last Prairie Schooler Santa
It's been a revolving door summer with lots of travel and three sets of visitors, the third to arrive tomorrow, and we are off up north for an explore.

I don't think I've said much about our Australian trip back in June.  Way back in February, the WT came back from Phoenix and said an Australian colleague wanted him out there to attend a convention and do some training for her sales force.......well, we laughed gently and said it'll never happen, won't be in the budget, blah, blah and by the way, dear heart, you know you're not going on your own, don't you?  Well, April came, and blow me down the big cheese said eye wateringly amount of dollars were exchanged for two return tickets to Brisbane and a side trip to Sydney and off we went, clutching passports and visas!  I must say....if there is any chance for you to fly with QANTAS then do it!  A lovely group of flight attendants on both airplanes and let me tell you, just as nice and smiling at the end of the fourteen hours as at the beginning!

Since we had a seven hour lay over in LA another extravagance was a lounge pass, only it wasn't..........worth every penny cent!

We took lots of photographs to bore entertain you and here's just a very few from the Wednesday market in Brisbane's City Plaza.

I forget what they were selling but
weren't modest about the claim!

The sad thing about markets when you are travelling is that you want to buy lots, especially those delicious looking salad greens to plant in the herb or vegetable garden, most of which I had never heard of.

Time for bed, a huge order came in at the food pantry today to be sorted and stacked......almost two tons!

Keep smiling and your hands busy!

Spent 43.00
Balance 7.00

Yikes, I'd better watch it, I bought some fabric to do the next RR on as well as some threads......and I'm going to the Stitching Post on Monday with DJ and Astrid........oh dear!

Hope you are all well....back soon!

August's Gifted Gorgeousness and almost on time!

I know......I'm amazed as you are.......August 22nd, no less and only a week late for the GG SAL.......see, Jo, I CAN (almost) do it!

Very little stitching around these parts so no goals for August, we had visitors for a fortnight from the UK and Pittsburgh Girl, Mr E and Mr G drove up from Pittsburgh through construction, storms and general Friday night traffic yuckiness to see PG's aunt and uncle so a very full house for a couple of nights.

Well, the one I really want to show you is this little beauty from Mary - isn't it lovely? A Teresa Wentzler freebie found here called Peacock Tapestry Ornament.

and this was what I sent to Mary, after much faffing about.  I stitched one, disliked my colour choices AND the pattern, went to Australia, came back, still hated it and in two days flat, stitched and finished the one the poor girl eventually received and she was kind enough to say she liked it.  I sent it with a skein of Threadworx.

Tiny Little Quaker
Papillon Creations
Gloriana Forest Fire
(I think!)
To finish off....a couple of pictures from last Tuesday morning, a beautiful mist combined with the sunrise over a farm near our home.

Well, dears, it's getting late so I'm off to bed.  Love and hugs, don't forget to smile and be kind to all!

Friday, July 31, 2015

July's Gifted Gorgeousness, well, it's still July here!

Well, according to Jo's Widgety thingy I am just squeaking in.........must get better, must get better, the 15th is a perfectly respectable date, why can't I remember it, lol?

Okay, so what do we have........well, first of all I offer for your viewing pleasure....Cottage Garden Samplings July, a delightful chart as they all are, but oh my, such stupid mistakes were made by the you can see the left hand row of little bees are too far in....was going to ignore it but excuse the pun, it bugs the socks off me and there's a little fudge at the bottom, no, don't go rushing to look, there's a good thing......oh, too late, you did?  Well, don't think it's going to be finished in July seeing as how there are only just over 14 hours left of the month.  B- minus because of the daft mistakes. Oops, almost forgot to mention why it's a GG piece.......gifted to me by Miss Joyce down in hot Texas in a Secret Santa exchange.  Thank you, Joyce!

oh, and the chart is going to be sent to Jo, in a serendipitous attempt to get her to stitch more series!

Next up is this sweet one, stitched by my lovely friend, Melissa (who needs to update her blog?) in Ontario and our hostess when Frances and I visited her in May.  A similar ornament now resides in Last of the Summer Wine country in Yorkshire.  Thank you, Melissa, it was lovely to meet you and Miss S and an A-plus,definitely!

This lovely chart was gift lent to me by Miss Lynda.  I had admired it as it made its way along our international Round Robin route and she kindly sent it back to me so I could stitch it too.  This will be my first Carriage House Samplings design but not my last, I feel.  Thank you, Lynda, and remember......the original is in the pine chest of drawers, lol! Grade to come!

On to my last offering.......this beauty of a chart was kindly offered to Friendly Stitchers by Miss Mouse oh, a long time ago, lol, I have a feeling I was still living back in the UK.  A start was made with great enthusiasm........well, you know what when the infamous July list was made........this was the large WiP (a UFO? Nonsense!) chosen.  I'm using one strand of Gloriana's Bellagio, not terribly spring-like it has to be said, but quite lovely.  The first picture is where I left it, who knows when.......though the Y and Z were added this month......

and this is what I stitched during July.  I did a little playing around with stitches, not quite as much four-sided stitch as Mouse designed and put in Algerian eyes instead of the satin stitch on the flowers.

This one is definitely moving into August with me, must get on with the list for that.  I must say it does help to keep this poor brain a little bit on track!  Definitely an A-plus for the pleasure of stitching it!

There are a couple of biscornus to show you but they have to wait until next month, since the one I sent to France didn't get its picture taken beforehand and I forgot to ask Miss Mary to take one for me!

Better get on, the WT is arriving home late tonight and there might be a bit to do before then!  August is going to be busy, pleasurably so, family coming from the UK and then a trip to Maryland, stopping to see the Pittsburgh gang on the way and then the Baltimore Babe!  Can you believe Big Cousin, our eldest grandson, will have left for, how can that be?  Oh, and I'll be staying at a resort there.......well, I know, but that's where the WT's meeting is.......!

Lots of love......

Stitch from Stash for May.......late! And a very brief Gifted Gorgeousness update......

Carried forward from last month    $103.58
Gift Certificate.                                   25.00
Thread and Eye.                                 -45.00
Stitching Bits and Bobs.                    -20.79
May Budget.                                       25.00
Total                                                    81.59 to spend!

Oh gosh, I'm on a trip today, the longest I've ever been on AND with a seven hour layour at LAX, treating ourselves to the lounge which will be rather nice....

So, some spending occurred, here in Michigan and in Canada!  All the fault of the two friends I was with, of course.......the first stop was at the Thread and Eye in London, Ontario.......lots of lovely patterns and threads and a lovely welcome from Kathy who seemed to know our companion, Melissa, really well........just saying.........!

Keeping an eye on the exchange rate I concentrated on patterns and came away with an appropriate one for a friend, another that I'm ashamed to say I can't remember what it is and a real autumny one from Jeaneette Douglas which I thought appropriate!

Back in Michigan, of course I HAD to take other friend, Frances, to Stitching Bits and Bobs up in Plainwell.........well, what can I say....she went all sulky when I said we might not get there.....  This was an opportunity to spend the gift certificate from lovely friend, Mouse, not the last birthday but the one before that........eighteen months old!  Worth waiting though as I got all the threads for the Douglas piece.

Add in five DMCs and a couple of GAST threads from here in town and Bob, as they say, is me mum's brother!

No photographs, sitting drinking coffee at just past the crack of dawn and must go and finish getting ready.......

Lots of love, gillie

PS....Gifted Gorgeousness.......well, I was the lucky one with treats from Ruth and Jo.  Do go and chuckle commiserate with Ruth and her Stitch from Stash and see the chart I won and scroll all the way back to April 20th on Jo's blog to see her beautiful stitching on the chart I won for being (with immense skill, I might add) her 7000th commenter!  Thank you, ladies!

3 for 1 deal, SFS, GG and Smalls!

Stitch from Stash - April
Well, another three SALs for the price of one.......and since time is running out on the above one let's not waste any more time........

Carried over from March $78.58
April Budget                     $ 25.00
Finish 75 x 85                   $  8.00
Spent #                              $  8.00
Available to Spend            $103.58

# Small confession here....I lost the receipt, I know I bought four GAST threads to use on Anniversaries of the Heart, but not entirely sure of the cost so putting down $2.00 each and will adjust next month if necessary.........

So here's the finish......finally....the May farmhouse......I did NOT like the choice of colour for the flower on the right so, can't remember....!

Gifted Gorgeousness

And moving swiftly

VERY late, sorry, Jo......but the above qualifies for GG as well as dear Mouse gave me the chart several years ago for my birthday.......thanks, pet!

I'm taking a bit of break with AOH as building houses is quite stressful and I've run out of the Used Brick colour too!  I've moved onto a band sampler that's been lying around in at least two states and another country so its time has definitely come around again!  Pictures next time!

Smalls SAL

And finally.......a day early........gosh.......

Okay, well, this SAL.......just forget all the rubbish about only showing completely finished items, whose daft idea was THAT?

This is JBW's Bienvenue .....lots of dear little houses on hills, not sure how I will finish it yet.....

So, three SALs compacted into one on the appropriate icons in the sidebar to find out more about them.

Finally.......some received Gifted Gorgeousness, both on the same day, from Maryland and Saudi Arabia......aren't I lucky?

First of all...from DJ......a combination birthday gift and RAK........goodness, a hard act to follow, the first picture isn't brilliant but in the second one you see the beautiful stitching and the pop of red in the heart and the initials.  Thank you, DJ!

And then all the way from the Kingdom .....finally.....when both Denise and I were giving up hope........this arrived for the Valentine's Day exchange.....along with some delicious white tea.....

A beautiful LHN design with the words Vanilla and Chocolate on, which immediately gives a feeling of contentment, doesn't it?  Beautifully stitched and put onto a project holder from Impie, Hattie and Bea.  The threads inside are the ones I am using for the Bienvenue piece, a place for needles and our initials and the date in the corner.  Perfect!  Thank you Denise! to link up and have a little look around to see what everyone else has been up to......

Stitch, Stash and Smalls.....

Short and sweet as it's 9:35 pm EST on March 28th so up against the wire...

Carried over from February $47.58
March Budget                       $25.00
Pincushion                            $04.00
Spent                                     $00.00
Available to spend                $78.58

The pincushion is the one from my this post so won't bore you with another picture.........and alas it is the only finished item I have for this SAL.......

.......but hoping for better this next month.......look on the bright side......a quarter of the way through the year and here I am......up to date with THREE SALs!

I'll leave you with a great picture as not particularly photogenic but delicious.......

Tarragon Chicken from Eating Well magazine.  Substituted chicken thighs as always when chicken breasts are called for, tastier and cheaper and used plain yoghurt instead of the sour cream.  I never know what to do with the rest of the container, with yoghurt you can eat it as a pudding!  It got the WT seal of approval!
